Amir Amirani - Producer-Director
Amir was born in Iran and came to England at the age of 9 in the long hot summer of 1976. He wishes someone had told him this would be the hottest summer for years to come – he might have tried to savour it more.
After school, he studied Biology at the University of Nottingham and then an M.Phil in International Relations at Cambridge University, following which he started work in television. In 1992, he took up a coveted Production Traineeship at the BBC.
Since 1994, Amir has worked through Amirani Films as well as in-house for the BBC, and as a freelancer for other independents.
Amir has made films for a number of the BBC’s flagship series, including Arena, Timewatch, Correspondent and Newsnight, covering subjects ranging over history, music, arts, science and politics. He is also interested in radio and drama, both of which he has tried and likes a lot.
His work has been nominated for a number of awards, including the One World Broadcasting Trust and Amnesty International Awards, and has been well reviewed by the press.
